Interviewing people is the main reason why recruiters have a job. This is the essential part of being a recruiter hence the need to be the best when doing this process. Of course, in order to be effective, it is important that recruiters are prepared in every interview that they do.
Here are some things which I do in order to be more or less prepared in every interview that I usually practice:
-read the resume/application form
-ready my set of questions
-prepare a pen and an extra just in case
-inform the applicants about the purpose and the expected outcome of the interview
I consider these things as the basic factors needed in an interview regardless if this is just the initial or the final one. If you are a first-time recruiter then this list would certainly be a guide in order for you to be an effective one in the near future.
