Open-ended questions during interviews should be always practiced in order for candidates to have room to express themselves during the interview. As a recruiter, you do not want to limit the candidates to just monosyllabic answers like yes or no because you would not be able to find the answers to the questions that you are asking for.
Here is a description done by Kipling which basically summarizes the way you should approach an open-ended question:
I keep six honest serving men
(They taught me all I knew)
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who
I know it sounds funny but when you think about it, it is actually applicable when asking open-ended questions. Go on and try it.
