Online recruitment, as discussed before is considered as one of the main sourcing bins in terms of having qualified applicants. Why do companies need to prioritize online recruitment? Well, here are some of my personal reasons:
-Less Costly
-Convenient
-Fast
Of course, don't take my word for it. This article from CNN clearly describes the evolution of online recruitment which involves different functions. Let me share some snippets:
The online resume hunt has become big business. Revenue for Monster Worldwide, the world's largest online recruiter, passed $1 billion last year, a 36 percent increase from 2005. In China, ChinaHR and 51Job.com are fighting for supremacy in the white-hot Chinese recruitment market. From Malaysia to India and Dubai, more employers and job candidates are turning online to find employees and jobs.
Another thing which I could add is the globalization of recruitment thus encompassing the limitations which was set before because of the effort and time which could be wasted before the evolution of online recruitment.

Growing online recruitment is big business, but it doesn't answer the question of whether or not it is effective for a company. I've seen many surveys that tell what percentage of a company's recruits come from which sources. I've never seen a survey that analyzes the effectiveness of those sources (e.g., performance ratings over the next 3-5 years).
I don't blame the survey companies, but rather the recruiting departments and HR departments they're surveying. Once a person is in the door, rarely do we ask the question of how good they are.
