Nobody likes to think about managing their career until either their boss ticks them off, or they're handed a pink-slip like it's an ice-cream bar.
Jason Alba gives good advice here about how to be ready for the (inevitable) job-hunt.
So, if you aren’t looking for a job, or don’t need one, what should you be doing to have true “job security?” Here are a few steps that everyone that is fat and happy in their job should be doing, right now:
(this is a summary only, read the full article!)
- Take a personal job seeker inventory.
- Sit down with someone, casually, and discuss your preparation with them.
- Go to a networking event
- Take someone out to lunch once a week. (I'm available!)
- Check out Monster and other boards once a month.
- Develop relationships with some recruiters.
- Mentor someone in their career.
