To most businesspeople unfamiliar with recruiters, the word conjures up interestingly polarized thoughts.
If you slant toward the negtive side of the spectrum, here's five things you may not have thought of that a recruiter could help you with in your next talent-aquisition-athon.
- Market Research -- Before dropping your money on billboards, radio spots, or
, In 20-30 seconds, an active recruiter can tell you if you're on-the-money or off-your-rocker in terms of talent-availability, local candidate pool, salary and compensation, company culture, etc.
- Job Posting -- Face it. Recruiters are better at posting jobs where candidates will see them than you are. Hire an agency simply to post your jobs for you and forward all candidates that apply to your email. Most agencies will have access to
,
,
and others.
- Sourcing -- This is simply buying access to their network. Unless you bargain for it, there's no screening at all --- just access to people which, afterall, is the most-valuable part of a recruiter's total service.
- Background and Reference Checking -- After you've narrowed your field to a candidate or three, ask your favorite recruiter to help you dig up the facts on the trusty trio. Who's shootin' straight? Who's worth their salt?
- Drug Screens -- Are you a drug-free employer? Do your employees know that's not just lip-service? Many recruiting firms will provide (or refer you to other services for) routine pre-employment or during-employment random drug screens to help you ensure a better work environment.
