I'm sure the old-school recruiters laughed when recruiters started using email to communicate with their candidates.
Now, as connectedness moves from bulky, boat-anchor desktop machines to teeny-tiny mobile devices, SMS (Short Message Service - Wikipedia) is joining the fray of tools to talk with your web-savvy sources (like the alliteration there?).
I like text messaging (or, "texting" if you want to be hip) for quick notes or FYI-type information that doesn't require a response (or, at least not an immediate one) from the person I am communicating with.
- At Cyber Sleuthing, Shally Steckerl gives us the low-down on how to send a quick text to a candidate or client.
- Glen Gutmacher further explains how to do this easily, along with some interesting instructions and some tools to more-fully automate this process.
At the end of the day, using SMS to keep in touch should not be used instead of good-old fashioned face-to-face communication. But, in certain circuimstances, it can be very, very handy.
