
Recruiting is a great time to simultaneously learn what people think about your company. Of course, interviewees will be on their best behavior, so their comments will be skewed somewhat, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Jim Barns, CRM Guru, notes the following statistic about how companies are increibly overconfident in how the world views themselves, which Seth Godin notes as the 80/8 Rule:
A study by Bain & Company found that 80 percent of companies surveyed believed that they delivered a "superior experience" to their customers. But, when customers were asked to indicate their perceptions of the experiences they have in dealing with companies, they rated only 8 percent of companies as truly delivering a superior experience.
