Christine at The Monster Blog talks about the issue of overweight at work.
I’m currently doing Weight Watchers at Work, as I have at former jobs. So far, the scale hasn’t budged. But the combination of a great leader and the support of coworkers also working to manage their weight are powerful forces. Meeting leftovers on the counter? No thanks; I’m getting weighed soon. And being able to talk openly about which methods of weight loss are effective and which aren’t is a huge source of support.
Clearly overweight and obesity in the workplace is a follow-on of the larger problem our whole society has. We're a very fat nation, and that's translating to huge losses in productivity, lost opportunity and increased medical expenses--something already out of control.
For me, I'm focusing on dropping those extra winter pounds as well, but luckilly, my scale has moved--15 pounds in the last 2 weeks to be precise, thanks to a great program that's fun and simple, and a great personal coach who really knows how to keep me honest (and, who happens to be my wife, too)
Hurrah for companies focused on Wellness at Work, and for the incredible people--trainers, coaches, dieticians and doctors--dedicated to helping our nation slim down and shape up.
[Disclosure: My wife is an Herbalife-trained Personal Wellness Coach. The Herbalife nutritional program helped Celeste and I drop a combined total of more than 165 pounds and keep it off for the last 4 years--this change in our nutritional habits has truly blessed our lives]
